This blue commemorative plaque records: 1 Execliff From 1861 to 1877 the home of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Fairfax Moresby G.C.B. D.C.L. He joined the Navy at age 13 and from 1821 to 1823 was on the Mauritius Station, in suppressing the slave trade on the East African coast he earned Wilberforce's gratitude. In 1853 he devised the flag communication code used into the 20th century. Port Moresby in New Guinea was named after him in 1873 by his son Captain John Moresby RN.
