This blue commemorative plaque records: Byron Court. Lord Byron married Anne Isabella Milbanke in 1815. Lady Byron and her daughter Ada came to live in this house after Lord Byron deserted them in 1823. On marriage Ada became the Countess of Lovelace and achieved fame by assisting Charles Babbage, the pioneer of computing. The universal computer programming language ADA was named in her honour. Lady Anne Isabella Milbanke, wife to Lord Byron, separated from him in 1823, raising their daughter Ada here; Ada Lovelace, later Countess of Lovelace, is celebrated for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer and is recognized as the first computer programmer.
