Castle Hill in East Ayrshire is a spoil heap, not a castle or ancient fort. It is a pile of discarded material from human industry, shaped by gravity and time into a hill that deceives the eye. The name promises history and heroism, but the truth is plainer: people dug, carried, dumped, and left. That abrupt birth is more interesting than invented grandeur.
