Kyle Castle is a ruined medieval tower house at Dalblair, East Ayrshire, built in the 15th century by Farquhar of Gilmilnscroft and occupied until the early 18th century. Its strong rectangular keep rose on a steep spur where two rivers meet, marking the boundary between Kyle Regis and Kyle Stewart. Much of its stone was taken to build local dykes and farms, leaving only a fragment of the north wall and the memory of a four-storied home. The loss fits the place: a border fortress reduced to a landmark in open country, its identity preserved because the landscape gave it nowhere else to hide.
