Craufurdland Castle in Fenwick began as a tower house around 1245, making it one of the oldest surviving castle structures in East Ayrshire. Its plain ancient core still stands beneath an early 19th-century gothic frontage, a layered collision of medieval restraint and romantic show. The castle remains privately owned and welcomes guests as a bed and breakfast and wedding venue, so the old tower still participates in love, rest and celebration rather than retiring into ruin.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Craufurdland Castle as Country House (period Unassigned), Tower (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Craufurdland Castle was built by the Craufurd family in the late 16th century and later held by the Montgomerie family. It is remembered as a significant example of Scottish Renaissance architecture and as the birthplace of Sir James Montgomerie, 9th Baronet, a noted 17th-century poet.
