Loudoun Castle rose near Galston as the Windsor of Scotland, containing over ninety apartments and a hundred-foot library holding eleven thousand volumes. The grand house fell to fire in 1942 while the family slept beneath the library, leaving behind a ruined tower that still mocks the polished rooms it once guarded.
