Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cairn Hill as Cairn (prehistoric) - (medieval)(possible), Triangulation Station (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Prehistoric cairn, possibly dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, with later medieval activity; its significance lies in its potential as a long-used ceremonial or funerary site, overlain by 19th-century triangulation infrastructure.
