Castle Eden holds a deserted medieval village, a moated site and an early medieval timber building barely two hundred metres south of The Castle. The moat cut through durable stone rather than soft soil, proving its owner wanted a boundary visible from a distance. A timber frame may have stood before the village grew, meaning people built, abandoned and rebuilt the same valley across centuries.
