Carrick Philip still stands as a smooth hillock in County Louth, hiding the man-made passage local people have whispered about for generations. The cave may have served a nearby castle, giving its occupants a secret route when danger approached. Whatever its original purpose, the earth swallowed the entrance while memory kept the shape of the hole beneath the grass.
