Edingham Castle stands roofless near Dalbeattie, a late 16th-century tower house built between 1570 and 1585 for the Morrisons. Its stone walls still measure 8.6 by 7.2 meters, marking the footprint of a home that passed from the Afflecks to the McVicar-Afflecks before falling into ruin. John Hutinson bought the empty shell in 1872, leaving behind a structure where generations lived, argued and forgot the names of those who first shaped it.
