Newbie Mains is a working farm built in 1816 from the demolished stones of Newbie Castle, hiding renaissance buckle carvings inside ordinary byre walls. The Corries and Johnstones fought over this tower near the Annan river, suffering sieges and disputes before the Marquises of Annandale took the land. Human bones and swords surfaced nearby, echoing a traditional defeat for Robert the Bruce, while ancient stone coffins waited beneath the western shore. The castle did not vanish; it changed shape, becoming the living structure that still stands where the military tower fell.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Newbie Mains as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
