What is recorded here

Knockhill is a medieval tower house in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Its point is known to the nearest hundred metres, but that is not an invitation to walk in or touch the stones. The house may have been built to watch the land, to hold a family through winter, or to answer violence with height and thickness. Whatever it did, it still stands as a small hard marker of the age that made it.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Knockhill as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
