Drumcoltran Tower is a late-16th-century stone tower near Kirkgunzeon, built by a Maxwell branch around 1570 and later passed to the Irvings. Its L-plan shape and preserved condition mark it as a scheduled monument, yet the Maxwell family kept altering the interior and building the farm steading into the 18th century. The tower still stands as a place where border pride, household labour and changing ownership layered one another across centuries.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Drumcoltran Tower as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Drumcoltran Tower is a medieval tower house believed to have been built by the Coltrane family, who were prominent in the region during the 15th and 16th centuries. It is remembered as an example of the defensive and residential architecture of lowland Scotland during the late medieval period.
