Lochinch Castle is a sundial built in 1896. It measures afternoon light somewhere in Dumfries and Galloway, turning solar movement into a visible line. A person may have stood beside it at midsummer, watching the shadow cross the mark and knowing the day was passing without a clock.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lochinch Castle as Sundial (late 19th Century) (1896). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Lochinch Castle, located in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, was built in the 17th century and significantly remodelled in the 19th century; it is remembered as a historic family seat of the Kennedy family, who held it for centuries. The castle is important for its architectural heritage and its association with Scottish history and literature, notably as a setting in Sir Walter Scott's works.
