Hencastle Rig

Settlement (iron Age)

What is recorded here

Hencastle Rig is an Iron Age settlement in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, where people lived before written history. The land may have held homes, herds and arguments under open skies. Only the rig remains, smooth and patient, keeping the shape of lives no longer spoken.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Hencastle Rig as Settlement (iron Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
