Tibbers Castle stands as a ruined ring ditch above a River Nith ford, where a timber stronghold became stone in 1298 and later shifted its administrative role toward Morton. It changed hands between Scots and English during the early fourteenth century, and a larger garrison occupied it after the English recaptured it. The castle passed through the Earls of Moray, the Earls of March and the Scottish Crown before agriculture took the site by the eighteenth century.
