What is recorded here

Half a tower still stands in Mouswald, the largest surviving border fortress in the parish after four others vanished. Carruthers raised the stone in the 16th century, but time and perhaps conflict took the western half, leaving a plain-walled stump with an unvaulted basement. It is not a complete castle for postcards; it is a border reminder that even the biggest local pride can be cut in two.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Mouswald Place as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
