Lochinch Castle is a prehistoric burnt mound in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, where hot stones, water and fire may have met to cook food, clean tools or mark a boundary long before written memory. The mound still holds that old heat in dark soil, waiting for a person brave enough to imagine the steam rising through rain.
