Frenchland Tower rose above the Hunterheck landscape as a three-story stronghold for the French family, tenants of the Brus lineage from the 13th century. Robert French later widened the entrance with a west-side turret and bedroom, reshaping the narrow spiral stair into a grander approach. Though the walls have fallen, the surviving gables still mark the footprint of a home where Sarah French and her husband warmed themselves through a brutal December in 1688.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Frenchland as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
