What is recorded here
Shiel of Castlemaddy still holds the shape of old fields in Dumfries and Galloway, though no date or owner remains attached to the boundary stones. The land may have fed children, buried lovers or simply resisted the plough, but the field system preserves more than survey markers suggest.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Shiel of Castlemaddy as Field System (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
