Beckton

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Beckton as Chapel (medieval), Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to Saint Bectan (or Becktan), an early Christian hermit venerated in parts of northern England and Scotland, the Beckton well and chapel were traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage. Local tradition suggests the site was used for ritual washing and prayer, particularly for curing skin ailments and ensuring safe childbirth.
