Castlemaddy is a hunting lodge in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, recorded without a date or owner in the national historic environment register. Its exact position is known only to the nearest hundred metres, leaving the building hidden behind mist, bracken or forgotten field boundaries. The absence of a date suggests the lodge may have been built, abandoned and rebuilt so often that no single era claimed it. A hunting lodge exists to watch other creatures move through darkness, but in Galloway the watcher may also be watched.
