Castlehill

Scooped Settlement (prehistoric)

What is recorded here

Castlehill is a prehistoric scooped settlement in Dumfries and Galloway where human hands cut into the earth before written history. Its hollows may have held hearths, tools or shelter, while the surrounding land witnessed seasons, storms and forgotten routines. The shape still suggests that people valued the place enough to change it.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlehill as Scooped Settlement (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
