Castlehill is an east Inverness residential area where Neolithic pits and burning still lie beneath modern homes, linking present-day streets to people who lived there before written history. Tradition credits King Kenneth I with granting the lands to the Cuthbert family in the 950s, giving the place a noble lineage that stretches through medieval and post-medieval change. Castlehill House, probably built in the late 18th or early 19th century, remains beside Culloden Road as a Grade B listed reminder of that older continuity.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlehill as Settlement (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
