Castle Loch is a shallow freshwater loch beside Lochmaben Castle, recognised internationally for hosting pink-footed geese and goosanders through winter. Its southern edge still carries the castle’s ruins, while the water itself belongs to birds, small burns and the quiet life of Dumfries and Galloway.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Loch, Lochmaben as Crannog (period Unknown)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
