Barscobe Castle is a 17th-century tower house in Balmaclellan, built in 1648 by William Maclellan from stone taken from Threave Castle. Robert Maclellan inherited the property, joined the Covenanter movement, and died there in 1983 after being murdered by another Covenanter for taking the Test and returning home. The castle changed hands several times, was restored in the 1970s, and now operates as a small seasonal bed and breakfast.
