What is recorded here

Castlehill is a prehistoric burnt mound in Dumfries and Galloway, where people heated stones and dumped them into water until steam hissed through soil and grass. That repeated clang of hot rock meeting cold water may have marked a boundary, a kitchen, a ritual or a warning. The mound still holds the shape of that noise, waiting for someone to remember what it sounded like.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlehill as Burnt Mound(s) (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
