What is recorded here

Auchneight may have been a medieval castle in Dumfries and Galloway, though no surviving feature confirms the claim. Its exact position remains uncertain within a hundred metres, leaving the hall, courtyard and defenders imagined rather than seen. The name preserves a lost building that may have watched the land, controlled a route or simply vanished under grass and time.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Auchneight as Castle (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
