Auchengassel

Castle (medieval)(possible)

What is recorded here

Auchengassel may have been a medieval castle in Dumfries and Galloway, though no surviving structure confirms the claim. Its exact position is known within ten metres, yet the ground itself has taken back the walls, rooms and lives that once filled them. What remained is a coordinate waiting for memory, not a ruin demanding praise.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Auchengassel as Castle (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
