What is recorded here
Indicated is a vanished fairy fort on the southwest shoulder of a Cavan drumlin, erased before human memory could keep its shape. It appeared on maps as a fort in 1836 and 1876, yet the land itself has been levelled into ordinary soil. Perhaps people stopped going there because the hill stopped answering, or perhaps the fort simply refused to be seen anymore.
Marked 'Fort' on the OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on SW shoulder of a drumlin hill. Site has been levelled.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
