Sherborne Castle is a 16th-century mansion in Dorset, England, built by Sir Walter Raleigh as a summer retreat beside the ruins of a 12th-century fortress. Raleigh completed the lodge in 1594, then the Digby family expanded it into a grand house during the 1620s. Capability Brown cut a lake between the old and new structures in 1753, making the broken stones part of the garden rather than a mistake.
