Anthony Ettrick, Wimborne Urban District Council, and Conservative Club, Wimborne black plaque

This black commemorative plaque records: The Man in the Wall. These licensed premises are named after Anthony Ettrick-the "Man in the Wall". Convinced that he would die in 1693, he had a colourful coffin placed inside Wimborne Minster, with that date painted on the side. When, eventually, he died in 1703, the date was altered. These premises, built in the late 18th century, were later the long-time home of Wimborne Urban District Council and then the Conservative Club. These premises were refurbished by JD Wetherspoon in January 2012.

Anthony Ettrick, known as "The Man in the Wall," is remembered for having a coffin placed inside Wimborne Minster in anticipation of his death, which occurred in 1703. The building associated with him later served as the headquarters for Wimborne Urban District Council and the Conservative Club before becoming a pub.
