This blue commemorative plaque records: The Guildhall The Guildhall has stood here since Elizabethan times. Sir George Somers, discoverer of Bermuda, was Mayor and M.P. for Lyme Regis in 1604. He died in Bermuda in 1610.
George Somers MP served as the Mayor and Member of Parliament for Lyme Regis in 1604; he is historically significant for his role in discovering Bermuda in 1609 during a voyage to Virginia.
