Man-made underground passage in Doonmaynor

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Doonmaynor holds a hidden passage and circular house inside its rath, yet neither leaves a mark on the ground. O'Hara noted them in 1991 but gave no further detail, leaving the shape and purpose of the passage to imagination. The earth may still cover a chamber built for storage, ritual or escape, while the rath stands unchanged above it.
Located in a rath (MA050-015001-). O'Hara (1991, 137, no. 39) noted a Man-made underground passage and a circular house (MA050-015003-) in the rath interior, but provides no details of either. No visible trace a ground level. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 June 2020
