What is recorded here

RATH in Derryleckagh, County Down, is an earthwork from the early Christian period, when local people shaped the land into a boundary, refuge or marker of status. The official record preserves little more than that shape and date, but the flat ground and lasting form suggest humans moved soil with purpose and returned to the place often enough for it to survive.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
