Why this person mattered

The Rt Rev. George Berkeley was an influential Irish philosopher and bishop known for his empiricist philosophy and the theory of subjective idealism, asserting that reality consists only of mental entities. As Dean of Derry from 1724 to 1734, he also made significant contributions to education, proposing a college in Bermuda to educate colonists and Native Americans, though it was never realized.
