Fulacht fia in Derreenataggart Commons

In rough hill grazing on blanket bog, on an E-facing slope. A kidney-shaped mound (11.9m E-W; 6.7m N-S; H 0.5m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. The opening (Wth 1.2m) faces N onto a dry channel from a stream to the SW. Traces of E-W cultivation ridges are evident on the mound. A hut site (CO115-137002-) lies c. 10m to the NE and a fulacht fia and a burnt mound (CO115-137006-, CO115-137001-) lie c. 20m to the SW and c. 50m to the W, respectively. One wall from a network of field boundaries (CO115-137008-) lies immediately to the N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
