Ecclesiastical enclosure in Decoy

Ecclesiastical enclosure

What is recorded here

According to Power (1907, 291) within the small townland of Decoy 'there is a cill, or early church site [TS076-060002-] …The circular embankment which protected the church is now barely traceable, it enclosed a space of about an acre, most of which has been used as a gravel pit. Here were found three gold pins, which were sold to a Clonmel silversmith for 4/6, also a "stone chalice" and a cross inscribed plummet or bell-tongue of stone'. The precise location of this enclosure is unknown within the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
