Enclosure in Cruagh — Report the wrong picture

Caibidil na mbrathar, or the enclosure of the goats, may still hide beneath the sheep pens on Cruagh Island. Goats broke the old ring and reminded everyone that memory needs keeping. The sea has washed away most traces of the people who first shaped that rock, but the goats remain witnesses. They still occupy the place, still mark it with breath and motion.

In a sheltered spot on ENE side of Cruagh Island. A small subcircular enclosure (D c. 20m), in fair condition, with a pair of conjoined huts (Ds 4m and 6m) along N perimeter. The latter have evidently been reused as sheep pens (info. M. Gibbons). This may possibly be the same as the 'spot on the north side of the island called Caibidil na mbrathar' referred to in OS letters (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 79). Not visited.
