Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00668 Dimensions: H 0.38, W 0.40, T 0.065 Probably the pointed cross stem of an outline cross. The end of the stem has been recorded. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Condition: Fragment with part of stem.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 11th century AD, based on the style of the cross. Such crosses were often associated with Christian monastic sites like Clonmacnoise and may have marked burials or served as devotional symbols.
