Hatherop Castle is a Grade II registered park or garden in the Cotswolds, preserving the landscaped ground of a lost estate rather than a standing tower. It lies beside the old Hatherop Estate, where Bazley families lived for more than 130 years and the River Coln still marks the edge of the parish. The castle may have been less a fortress than a boundary of privilege: a place where gardens, roads and memory were arranged to make ownership visible.
