This commemorative plaque records: Prince Charles - later Charles II is reputed to have spent the night of 2nd March 1646 in this house before escaping to the Scillies after the Royalist defeat at Naseby
King Charles II of England (1630-1685) was monarch during the Restoration period, reigning from 1660 to 1685, and is remembered for re-establishing the English monarchy post-interregnum and his political pragmatism.
