Abergele Roads

A large area of shoals extending out from the mouth of the River Clwyd and forming the southern boundary of the Inner Passage.

Abergele Roads consists of glacial and fluvial deposits, primarily outwash sands and gravels, laid down during the last Ice Age, around 15,000 to 12,000 years ago. These sediments were transported by meltwater streams and deposited at the river mouth, forming a prominent shoal that has historically influenced local tidal patterns and maritime navigation.
