In undulating pasture, located on a hillock. A flat expanse of boggy pasture, which lies to N, is shown on the 1837-8 OS 6-inch map as a small lake, named ‘Colemans Lough’. This enclosure is shown on the 1837-8 OS map as a circular, ringfort-like enclosure (diam. c. 40m), and on the 1922 edition as a penannular, hachured area (diam. c. 35-40m) open to NE. At the location there is gently domed knoll or hillock (c. 35m E-W; c. 30m N-S; H c. 2m to SW; 3m to NE), roughly oval in plan, with a flattish top and broadly sloping sides. The sides slope quite steeply, and are scarped (H 0.9m) at their base at S-W. It has the appearance of a natural hillock; it may have been modified in the past to form an enclosure, however, no clearly defined enclosing element is now evident. The flattish top (diam. c. 13.5m) is traversed by a discrete length of bank (L 9m NNW-SSE) incorporating a single large boulder, which according to local tradition, was used as mass rock (MA031-008001-). There is a possible Man-made underground passage (MA031-073----) c. 130m to SW, and a possible rath (MA031-007----) c. 220m to W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 June 2018
