Why this matters

A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

On a hillock on SW shore of Loch Róisín Dubh. Small poorly preserved subcircular enclosure (10m by 8m) defined by a single line of limestone blocks (H c. 0.7m). A natural boulder is incorporated at SE. The interior is c. 0.5m higher than the surrounding ground surface. Probably an enclosure of some sort but also possibly the remains of a house. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
