House

At no. 10 Abbey Street, Ennis within the historic town (CL033-082----). An inscribed stone (CL033-082030-), found here during demolition, dated the existing house to AD 1661. The house, built originally by a James MacNemara, was described (Clare Champion, August 10, 1990) as a three-bay, three-storey private house with a basement and backgarden. At the time of demolition (1990) the house was in a dangerous condition and of the original building only the front wall containing the datestone remained. It was clear that the demolished house only included part of the original McNemara dwelling which extended to cover the site of a present-day shop next door to the S.
