Probably dating to the early medieval period, this cross-slab is associated with the monastic site of Clonmacnoise and may have had a Christian liturgical or commemorative function. It reflects the spread of Christianity in Ireland and the tradition of inscribed stone monuments in the Insular Celtic artistic tradition.
