Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00424 Dimensions: H 0.18, W 0.18, T 0.03 Outline cross with hollowed semicircular terminals inside an outline frame. Lines run diagonally from the centre ending in diamond shapes containing a cross. Inscription: Above, an inscription 'JR'. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), consistent with other Christian cross-slabs in Clonmacnoise. The design may reflect liturgical or commemorative use, possibly associated with monastic tradition.
