Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00357 Dimensions: H 0.93, W 0.52, T 0.10 Outline expansional cross with median line. The semicircular terminal expansions are balnk white the lozenge shaped centre has interlace decoration. Inscription: 'OR COMGAN' inscribed horizonally across the upper arms of the cross. Evidence of discovery: Du Noyer 1854; Petrie 1869. Condition: Complete but very worn. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-180, 187 Stokes, M. Date likely to the early medieval period (8th–11th century AD), associated with Christian monastic activity at Clonmacnoise. The cross-slab may have marked a burial or served as a memorial, reflecting the fusion of Christian iconography with local stone-carving traditions.
