Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00341 Dimensions: Unknown. Five line outline expansional cross with circular central and four semicircular terminal expansions which contain fret patterns. Inscription: Two inscriptions: 'OR DO CONAING MC CONGHAIL' and 'OR DO DUBCEN M THADGGAN'. Evidence of discovery: Drawn by Petrie in 1822. Condition: Lost after 1822. Stokes, M. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with the high cross tradition in Ireland. The cross and inscriptions may have had a Christian funerary or commemorative function, common in monastic sites like Clonmacnoise.
